As far as I understand, matryoshkas were traditional Russian toys for kids. Now they seem to have become collectors items and way to delicate for kids’ hands!

I want a nice matryoshka for my 2 yr old for christmas and am having real problems finding one. I’m happy to pay up to 30 pounds if it’s really good quality but of course it also has to be strong enough to withstand the usual playtime fun.

Ideally from Europe because anything further afield won’t arrive in time.

Any ideas????

Not bad, though it doesn’t say if they’re actually suitable for kids! I also wanted a bit more variation between each doll (sometimes they’re holding different things for example) for more play variation. I know, I’m fussy!! But that’s certainly a back-up plan. Thanks,

It says these are given as gifts at christmas to children as well as suveniors… the prices are in dollars though.  Lots of different designs, some really pretty ones grin

the last one is US only. I think the first looks more promising since it’s UK based. Good googling wink

we’ve 2 sets of these and mine LOVE them! one set i got quite cheap from next, theres only 5 in all, the other was a pressie and has 7 but the teeny one is rather teeny indeed, swallowable..but supervised its ok. I’m not sure what about them wouldnt be suitable for kids except the size of the smallest one, which could easily be removed for safe keeping till the child is bigger..

I thought I’d seen myriad doing nesting dolls, but I can’t seem to find them now.. or I was thinking of another wood toy seller.

I have about 9 sets of these. Some are heirlooms from the Russian branch of my family, but quite a few i’ve picked up in other places, when i went to Bulgaria etc

I got DD her own last year. It’s a nice one- the dolls are done to look like the characters from the story the Enormous Turnip. I got myself one too, they were from the continental market which comes to Belfast each year at Christmas

I’m going next week, and if the stall is there again, i am going to get another couple anyway- if you like i could pick one up for you, and post it over?

Thanks for the offer Feathers. If I don’t find one easily amongst the sites here, I’ll take you up on that offer.

Looks interesting too, Willa. Thanks.
