Ok an activity that youve done recently with the kids that went well, or something youre planning.

I feel like I need a bit of a kick up the backside at the moment! Think Ive been so busy with xmas bits and bobs, and feel like I need to spend some more ‘quality’ time with the little ones.

Heres mine which I did this morning: we went on a winter walk and ‘collected’ sounds and sights as we went along. The kids (age 2 and 3) really enjoyed this. The idea this afternoon is to make a book of winter for our season table with pictures/collages of the things they saw and heard on our walk. We might even record a kind of musical journey of the sounds we heard on the walk, a bit of fun anyway!! But I think that last part is the school teacher in me! The walk on its own would probably be just fine!  smile

So come on, inspire me! It doesnt matter how simple it is, sometimes the simple ideas are the best ones.

One of my favourites recently was sticking torn up pieces of tissue onto jam jars with pva glue, then lighting tealights inside them to say hello to the people and animals who aren’t with us any more.  We did it at hallowe’en but you could do a christmas version too, eh.  And Eve and Noah adore ‘Simon Says’!  They don’t get the bit about not doing it if Simon doesn’t say it yet - they just love jumping around and following instructions!  big surprise  LOL    The other top favourite is dancing - would yours do a little dance about their walk too?

We made a Christmas Stocking garland.  Basically it’s stocking shaped bits of red card with a white rectangle on the top and then you allow the kids free rein to decorate them.  Then once decorated and the gallons of glue has dried you make two holes in the top of the stocking and then thread them on string or ribbon.

I’m ‘still’ waiting for the glue to dry at the moment so we can put the ribbon on them LOL

We went for a bike ride in the sun - it was freezing and we came home to an open fire afterwards smile

This morning we did cut out some more xmassy shaped busicuits.  Rye’s fallen asleep, so might keep them for tomorrow to ice.  Then I remembered I’d bought some foam paintbrushes a few weeks ago, and as Rye was asking to paint I got those out… he had great fun, making spirals, circles and then finally colouring the entire sheet in lol.

I also plan to make some Yule inspired jamjar tealight holders for gifts and we also need to make our yule decs to send instead of cards, so in the next day or so I’ll make some craft clay up (the last lot I knocked the tray off the shelve and they broke :-(  )

Ohhh and the glittery snowflakes from yesterday were a big hit with Rye.  I cut the shapes out and popped the glue on the paper then just let him at it with the glitter.  (Photos on my blog).
I had a go at some felt ones too for the season table - main prob, I couldn’t remember how to fold the paper to for snowflakes.. but we managed. grin

I really like the iidea of a sound and sight walk; I imagine it will be something Rye would enjoy too grin

Hmm recently I’ve been making yule cards with Harry who is also a huge glitter fan!  Feel quite green as am recycling all my old cards I was sent last year, cutting out pics for Harry to glue on to some plain coloured card. He’s really into baking cakes at the moment, but as he doesn’t like to eat them, DH is diabetic and I am supposedly on a diet, I’m trying to think of something to distract him!  In the next few days I’m hoping to make christmas streamers and paper chains, and glitter snowflakes as well.  I love the jam jar tea light holders and tissue paper idea, may try that one!  I’ve also started taking him to an indoor play area as he loves climbing around.  I foudn out when the quietest days are, and the times we go there are only 4 or so other little ones there, so its great.  the baby is left with DH and Harry and I have some quality time together.  Took him to see the christmas lights being switched on at the local village but they started early so we missed it!  Planning to take him to see santa at a local pub which is doing a sleigh ride through the woods to santa’s grotto, and take him on the santa train near us which he’ll love as he’s really into Thomas the tank engine!
