The link is posted in the HE section, so I won’t bother doing it again.

Seriously, read the Impact assessments, there are a lot of disturbing things with regard to schools, not just for Home Educators.  For example the Bill if it becomes Law, will give Head Teachers the power to decide whether or not to inform parents if their child had to be restrained.  Similarly, it talks about giving teachers powers to search kids for drugs, knives etc.  For starters, the police can’t even talk with a child without a suitable advocate being present…. and the govt is proposing giving teachers greater powers than the police?  I can’t imagine teachers want this either, plus surely, it puts them at greater risk of being assulted?

Gawd awful in my opinion, however, I am curious to know what parents with kids in schools think and teachers on the site too.

I haven’t got the brainpower to read this through properly tonight, but it sounds very worrying. Fi, our school has a relatively new head, and I’m hearing things I don’t like, like a lot of shouting in assembly and giving children who’ve done something wrong a real dressing down, until they cry. I realise this is a lot of hearsay, but I wouldn’t like someone like that to have the power not to tell me things regarding restraining of my child. That’s just not right. I’ll comment more once I’ve read the document.

If Rye was in school and was restrained as a last resort - then I would want to know about it so I could work with Rye and the school to figure out why it was necessary and to try and ensure it isn’t necessary in the future.

Similarly teachers in my opinion, are there to teach not to do bodysearches.  I appreciate knives and drugs etc are becoming more of a problem, still, if I was a teacher I wouldn’t want to be searching kids…I mean, surely it can have a negative impact on the relationship the teacher has with his/her pupils???

I noticed the Teacher Unions aren’t terribly impressed with the impact assessments either.
