okay, folks, at the age of 45 (?) I have got and splashed out on a beautiful pair of docs (the black half boots with roses on the sides). I figured they were ideal for me as I flit so often between nursery, the allotment and town.

The big question is, what do I wear them with? Come the winter…
Love to hear it…come on, I dare ya!

I wear them with anything.  They go great with trousers, long skirts, shorter skirts with tights.  If I’d have found a cheaper pair of white docs I’d have worn them for my wedding!  I live in Docs and would love to get another pair but sadly funds won’t allow at the minute.

My Mum has never let me forget that when I went to my leavers do at 6th form college (I won’t say how long ago as it makes me feel old lol) I had a nice dress on and looked really pretty until you looked at my feet and saw the black docs.  I was quite happy looking like that and also just before we had to leave I realised I didn’t actually own any shoes!  I just had docs.

That’s great Michelle. They seem really comfy so far. And I like the flowers. They seem to fit right in with who I am.

They sound lovely.  I’m definately a fan.  I can’t wait to get DD in a pair.

Love Docs, and I always wanted white ones for my wedding but didn’t do it in the end, they wouldn’t have gone with my dress! Agree with Michell - wear with anything. I would love to get some more sometime too as I used to live in them. I do still have a purple velvetty suede pair I bought years ago from a DM stall at a festival and just love them.

I’ve seen those ones, they are gorgeous smile

I personally wear docs 99% of the time and similar big boots the rest of the time.
I think they look great in the winter with thick cottony tights and short or 3/4 length skirts, long skirts, under trousers (only drawback is then you don’t really see them!) basically anything.

Enjoy and don’t forget to use dubbin, makes them last and more flexible.

I love docs too, I wear them with everything in winter as well, and I wore them for my wedding! My 3 year old dd has a pink flowery pair - they are so cute!  smile

Another Doc fan here and again suggest wearing them with everything!

Remember wearing them at school with very short skirt, thick black tights and artfully ‘crumpled’ socks arranged around the top.

Have a fantastic pair of red ones now.

I only ever have 3 pairs of shoes at a tme - one pair of sandals, one pair of Docs and one old broken-down pair of Docs for gardening/allotment. The current ‘good’ pair usually last me around 5 years before having to be replaced and I do a *lot* of walking. Given the English weather, I wear my Docs at least 10 months of the year every day, so I just wear them with anything and everything. Mine are green ones, and I even wore them at my wedding, with stripey tights, under my dress!

I lived in docs throughout my college days and really want some more. I used to wear them with everything, I think they look good with black leggings and a short hippyish skirt over the top.  Can you send me a link with a picture of these with the roses on, they sound right up my street.

I’m so glad I’m a member of this forum.  Apart from my DH I’m the only one I know who still wears docs.  Ok I hold my hand up I still dress the same as when I was a student, patchwork clothes, long skirts etc.  I even bought some patchwork dungarees a few months ago (wanted them for years)

Talking to all you fantastic ladies makes me feel like I’m not the odd one out.

Oooh I love my docs, Unfortunately due to pregnancy feet I can’t get them on at the moment but I love wearing them with dresses and skirts. I’ve really been after a green pair for ages and this thread has just reminded me to go seek some out!

Oh I love docs; they are so cool.  When I was younger I had some black ones which I painted with flowers and stuff.  They were awesome.  I used to wear mine with everything, even flowery dresses in the summer.  I love them; am very jealous but thinking that I might not be too old for mine after all.  Yippee.

Never too old for DM’s smile

I used to paint mine with nail varnish so I could take it off when I fancied a new pattern!

Nail varnish is such a wicked idea; I’m going to start saving for a new pair right now.  My dh has a lovely pair of dm shoes that are his ‘business’ shoes that he wears with his suit; even though he is in his professional guise, he can still feel a hippy at heart with his dms on.
Ooooooh purple velvet knee high docs; yummy!!
