DS1 is called Harry Andrew. Andrew is DH’s name, and he thinks we named him Harry cause it was one we both agreed on, obviously has nothing to do with the fact I’m a huge Harry Potter fan!
DS2 is Oliver Patrick, cause we both liked Oliver and patrick is my grandad’s name.
We have Marcus and Nina.
Marcus because it’s a name that runs in his dad’s family (middle name of Grandad, dad, cousin).
We were not sure till he was born, but when we saw his face, he definitely looked like Marcus.
Nina’s name came to me at the beginning of my pregnancy with her, a name I’d never thought of much before, but it felt wrong to think of any other name for her.
Maybe she chose it? :o)
I find it so hard to chose a name for someone, pffff…
I named my first child Alexandre because I was 17 and loved studying History, and loved the story of Alexandre, The Great. Then when Natacha was born I had been reading Tolstoi, Anna Karenina, and fell in love with all those names. My third son got his first name Antonio from his father and Carlos from his grandfather (Antonio Carlos), he has a very old fashioned name. Francisco and Martim (he was supposed to be called Martinho but my cousin took the name and felt funny as she had done this twice already, so..) are very strong Portuguese names all belonging to Saints. If I had had a girl she would have been called Maria or Luna (moon). Now if I ever get pregnant again, and have a girl I like the name Olivia, because you spell it the same way in both languages and I like the way it sounds! So cute…
I named my daughter Tansy Flora Artemisia Todd. Tansy is a bitter herb and yellow flower, it contains a drug called thujone which you find in absinthe which is a medicinal ingredient - albeit a fun one! Artemis was the strident, fecund goddess of the hunt and a floral connection to other plant species that are medicinal (and fun! see where I was going with this? ) and the Flora tied the first and last together. She took Mark’s surname as we’re not married and it didn’t matter to me what name she had, whereas he was quite touched that I said she should have his as it means a lot to him.
I have Innes Campbell. Innes only made it on to my baby name list not long before I discovered I was pregnant. It is usually a surname. I love the strong Scottish sound of it. Campbell is my maiden name so had to get it in there. Almost called him James, also love Jamie, but too many James’ in DH’s family.
Also have Archie James. DH would only call him Archie and barely considered anything else! I suggested it originally but then thought it was either, 1 - too cute, I know loads of dogs called Archie, 2 - too ‘old man’ and 3 - a bit trendy. James because I still love it and because of the family connection. Next boy I definitely get final word! Probably Aled, Cailead or maybe Alisdair. When i have a girl she will be called Eilidh Victoria.
My son is called Nathen Rupert, because we liked those names, esp. the meaning of Nathen (God has given). If my bump’s a girl we will probably call her Holly Rose, Amber Rose or Daisy Rose - hubbie likes Holly after his Grandma. As for a boy - that’s harder - but we like Theo, Calum or Austin, and I like Asher but husband and son don’t. We’ll see!
We named our son Indigo - We knew we were having a boy and I was really struggling to find a name for him. It seemed to come to me in a flash of inspiration and it just stuck. We call him Indi for short. His full name is Indigo Nemo Orton-Brown - Nemo because it was the first film I made my other half watch with me (don’t ask!!!) We love his name and couldn’t imagine him being anything else. The problem is thinking what we might possibly name any future children, but I have found much inspiration in the names you have all given your blessed babies.
Emma Louise and Kathryn Elizabeth(Twins) a mix of family names and being twins the names kind of sounded right together, IYKWIM!! Sara Anastasia an old family name, she is named after my husband’s Great Grandmother on his Dad’s side. Benedict Luiz- Benedict meaning Hebrew for God’s blessing and what a blessing he was having been baby free for over fourteen years!! Luiz is his God Father’s name, a dear family friend and priest. Philippa Josephine is named after her Grandfather’s- Dave’s dad is Philip and mine Joseph, they were pleased as punch when her name was announced! She does however get called a variety of names- Pip, Pippa, PJ and Philippa J !
So no hippy names but a great bunch of kids young and old!!!
Ivo Bean Woodbury 16/06/09
Ivo means Yew tree and Bean is…well if you met him you’d agree, hes a Bean!
When he arrived I knew straight away he was Ivo and not Fox or Howell, the other names we had on the list.
My Girl (if I have one!) will be Artemis, goddess of wilderness, childbirth, virginity and fertility.
not very hippy at all really mostly names we liked that had family connection dd1 is called amy hannah (she was going to be called scott!) dd2 is called emma jane(she also was going to be called scott!) ds1 scott towers(a scott at last) and dd3 spohie anne (last two are twins and sophie seemed to go with scott)
Our Ds is Dylan_.Finn (_. to throw search engines )
Dylan, because we both really like the name, a welsh name it’s meaning is “from the sea” and Dp is a Douglas which means “dark water” so there felt like a bit of a connection there too.
Finn came about as I especially really like the name, it means “fair haired warrior” and he is! lol
We are really struggling to think of names for our pumpkin due in august, we have a few girls names running in our heads but we both feel like we used our favourite boys name already!
We like names that are unusual but not unheard of.
My ds is called Luca Michael Joseph. Luca because we wanted an Italian name given that my partner is called Giovanni and his surname is Finelli, (he’s half Italian, half Austrian). Michael is my dad’s name and Joseph is my partner’s uncle’s name - we didn’t want any connection to my father-in-law as G has no relationship with him - not a nice man! Really interesting thread for a nosey parker like me!
