My little one desperately needed some autumnal clothes and I really begrudge paying full whack. So, today, we went for a little wander down into the town, and popped in to the 7 or 8 charity shops along the way. I’m no stranger to these shops, but very rarely find things for my daughter as it is often for newborn babies, or older kids, and at 10 months shes neither here nor there! But today must have been our lucky day!

We managed to pick up some absolutely beautiful clothes for a pittance. In amongst the ‘alright’ stuff, I came across some gems, some really unique fair trade and organic clothing! This is a first as a lot of our stuff I have either (daringly and quite scrapily) made, or have been passed on from family to family. We got 2 gorgeous dresses with wooden buttons from quite a well known fair trade clothing company, some patchwork dungarees, some large flowered dungarees and a chunky warm cardy! I even managed to pick up a Namaste dress for myself and an abacus as Lilly fell in love with it, screaming at the top of her lungs!!! All of this cost me just shy of £13. Now you can’t grumble about that!!!

I just had to share my joy on here as I know it will be appriciated. I just can’t see how people still insist on buying everything brand spanking for their little darlings. With a bit of care and attention (Im changing the buttons on some on her stuff) you can find really beautiful and unique clothing that will last longer than most of the new but cheaper stuff! And while you’re finding oodles of treasures for your family, you are also helping to support the work of each individual charity you buy from. Its fantastic, we should really be thankful for people having cast offs!!!

I hope you can enjoy the benefits of charity shopping as much as we do!!

Bright blessings and sparkly Love!!!

Lots of big snuggly jumpers and leggings are always good!!! I was at my most pregnant in the summer/very very start of autumn so stretchy dresses were the best for me!! But I’m sure you will find some lovely wears!!! I have just tried some of the clothes on my little one, and she’s managed to get sticky half eaten prune down the one dress!

Good job they’ve not been washed yet!!!

I got an organic cotton top for myself the other day for £2, and it looks brand new.  I love charity shops!  I have not bought anyhting new for myself for years and most of DD’s stuff is charity shop or ebay!  It’s great isn’t it? smile

Fantastic! Similar to us, Most of my daughters clothes are other peoples cast offs or things they have outgrown etc. Its amazing the stuff people deem to be no good! I bought a pack of 30 wooden floral buttons from ebay last week, they were £2 inc postage coming from Hong Kong and they’re gorgeous so I plan to get sewing them cardigans etc!!! clothes can easily be jazzed up!

Oh really? No I have bought lots of things from Hong Kong, the postage is always surprisingly low! They of course take a while to come but usually the seller has really good communication keeping you updated. Go for it!!!

I got grace a glorious autumnal chunky knit cardi yesterday for £1.49 - looked like it had never been worn. Yay for charity shops!

We’re coming to the UK on holiday in a couple of months, and I’m already excitedly planning a shopping spree - all at car boot fairs and charity shops! We’ll be around Essex and Lyme Regis areas if anyone can recommend any good ones!

Sounds like you had a good day. I love charity shopping too. We visited my mother today who turns her nose up at second hand so it was quite funny when she commented on my top and then on my necklace, saying how nice they were and then when it got chilly later I whipped out my cardi and she was admiring that too and of course it all came from charity shops wink

I had a few good finds of my own today including a Howies organic cotton polo shirt for dh for £2.49! he is slowly coming around to charity shopping, he’s always happy enough that i shop there for me and the kids but is not keen himself, drives me mad! but after a couple of good finds for him he seems to be more convinced! smile

for anyone who lives in Balham or enjoys a trip down there once in a while there is a charity shop in the market only for Kids. You will find anything for clothes (0 -7years old) and many other items as buggies, maternity clothes, cots, beds, etc. I have relocated from the area but I still go there once every two months. If you’re not sure where feel free to ask me.

glad to share
