Brilliant. That coupled with no sex education is why we have the highest teen pregnancy rate resulting in mothers who don’t breastfeed in western Europe. Genius.

“Hello, this is Radio 4. The news today: the world is ending, and most of us are going to die in a variety of hideous and extremely painful ways. Later on in the programme, we discuss how this will affect the already falling W.I membership numbers. But right now, it’s time for “The Archers”

ok i read it differnetly. if i was sitting a chemistry exam i would answer that by ways of describing calcium carbonate is/ is not a pollutant. if calcium is a mineral we need as humans then it needs to be in baby formula. regardless of weather or not i agree with the milk given free or the comments abotu saving lives. this is a chemisty paper and should be read as such. i agree it could have been put differntly, and if i sat that exam i would have seam coming out of my ears and probably cause a fuss in an exam about it !!! i think who every wrote that question had no idea what the were writing about and do need to be corrected.

It’s the subtle influence though, isn’t it? Regardless of the actual answer to the question posed, a whole bunch of 16 year olds will go out of that exam having subconsciously and erroneously been told that formula is best for developing world babies (and over time, will they still make the distinction, or will they believe it’s better for *all* babies?) and that breastfeeding is the domain of self-righteous and melodramatic do-gooders.

The problem isn’t the question itself, it’s the way in which misinformation is secreted within the question.
