OMG Claire! Will be showing Russ this later! This is about forty minutes from where we are currently and so commutable for his work. It is also closer to my family than we are now - about ten minutes away in fact - and my cousins actually live in Baldock. I wonder how much monthly rent is? I know he will straight away try to veto it but gosh i love this idea! smile

That looks amazing and actually do-able, especially the line at the bottom about rent being dependant on usage etc.

I would love to nose around but a bit far from us which is a shame, couldn’t live there because I do like my own space but would be up for visiting lol smile

Aw dammit, a month ago I would have been there in a flash, too many complications right now though.  :(  My heart is tugging in two directions reading this!

I confess to being very tempted too - even tho I would prefer to have my own house or flat.

Plus, I wouldn’t be able to childmind - well it wouldn’t be easy as everyone would have to be CRB checked - not very practical.. plus then the place would be subject to Ofsted (well the company they’ve outsourced to) inspections etc.  So work would be an issue and of course there’s Rye’s dad.

I wonder how far it is from where he lives… if it’s about an hour drive - not much difference to here..

Booger, I just looked at the gallery and that kitchen is amazing - andoooohhhh an aga, I haven’t cooked on an aga since I was a teenager!

Not sure what else I could do tho jobwise, as I’m not willing to go back to an office job :-(

Well, our plan financially would be that Chris gets whatever job pays most for a while and as fast as possible we get some basic eco-camping set up (I have a friend who can build compost toilets) and do some farmers markets with our produce (I want bees! and chickens!..Chris wants pigs!) which would bring the rent down. We could also rent out space for groups and run courses ourselves too…

Childminding could work…I have a friend who runs Home Ed childminding, which would also be a possibility although the setting up would be a faff we could set up with one childminder and a couple of assistants which would make it more worthwhile.

Can people tell I’m desperate to make it work…I imagine arguments over who got to cook in that amazing kitchen though!

If I can get this to work, I’ll be asking for an advance on my inheritance (!) to see us through the first couple of months.

I would so love this but DH not budging on needing our own space. *sigh* I’ll keep talking though. wink
Plus its complex in that we are in a ‘bought’ house atm and would need to sell or rent out to pay mortgage etc and then it would need work done first. Doing lots of talking right now (or we should be) as I feel like life is sliding by and am not at all where I want to be. Claire, have they given you a monthly amount for rent?

Its £2,600 a month…I was chatting to some friends yesterday and I have one family def interested (Mum, Dad and toddler) and another perhaps…

As far as space to selves goes, I had ideas surrounding making part of the grounds a ‘quiet space’...lots of lovely planting and a yurt so people who need time away from everyone else can have somewhere to retreat to!

It sounds wonderful Clare.

And I am so very interested - lack of capital is the stumbling block… although I suppose as a lone parent benefits would kick in until either childminding takes off - or I do something else… heheheh and yup I’d be fighting to use that kitchen, looks beautiful… I can just imagine how lovely bread, brownies, muffins etc would be.

Ohh and for milk - goats are fairly easy to look after and milk.

How many families can the house hold?
And I guess how long do you have to set something up - I imagine a place like that would generate quite a bit of interest.
