Hubs has been feeling quite low of late and needs a bit more of a holiday over summer than originally planned.  With finances being quite tight while I’m studying we’ve just got a tent big enough to use as a family and are planning a few long weekends camping locally over the summer.  We haven’t taken DS before (he’s 2) and I’m wondering about sleep.  What do your little ones do when camping?  Do they go to sleep later because of the light?  I imagine it’ll be a case of all to bed together as it starts to get dark, all up early as it starts to get light and DS will catch up on sleep in the car in the day or sleep in if he’s really tired.

would be interested to hear your experiences and tips!

That’s what we do - go to bed early and get up (too!) early! Ours do tend to go to sleep a little earlier than when it gets dark though - ds is two and he’s always exhausted by 8ish! Ds LOVES camping, he thinks the tent is amazing! xx

Alice loves camping and always very exciteable in the evening but crashes out very quickly, we stay up a bit longer in the big porch bit of the tent.  We’ll see how it goes this year with a newborn aswell wink

She sleeps on top of fleece blankets with duvet on top and wearing cotton then fleece all in one. Depending on the weather of course smile

Yes ours have always gone to bed later when camping.  Things generally seem to quieten down around 9 or 10 but we stay up later reading and chatting. We always get up early too, especially in warm weather as the tent gets too hot!  As you say when they were little (around one or two) they would nap in the car in the day on trips out smile

Ours also go to bed later. but not up until dark, they usually agree to having a story in their sleeping bags (they are 2 and 4) then they crash out.  they actually sleep better, in that they wake up less, I put it down to the fresh air!
Last year we did alot of camping in a little 3 man tent, all 4 of us, other campers got a shock when we all piled out!
Kids love camping though, I think just flow with it and you will all have a ball, enjoy xx

we camp alot with our girls (5 and 23 months). Lil goes in with her dad on an air bed and I have the smaller one with me on another air bed. This works really well. They tend to go to bed a little later, but not too much. I still manage to maintain their bedtime tooth brush, wee and story / feed, which helps them settle down.
hope you have fun camping!

We went camping for our honeymoon in the middle of this month, WITH our 13 month old Ru, and he loved it. We bed share anyway, and he naturally has the same bed and rising time we do. We loved it and really enjoyed camping with our son… x
