I’m having a bit of a difficult time at the minute, and would like to read something that is inspiring and uplifting.

My question to you all is, which books inspire you to be a better person, Mother or just in general?

Thanks

Michelle

Ok it’s a bit sad but the whole little women series is one of my top feel good inspirational reads, five people you meet in heaven is also fab and makes me think a little differently about the contacts we have in life.

Hugs michelle - I hope the difficult stuff passes soon x

Hope you’re ok Michelle.  Not sure I can be much help when it comes to inspiring books, but I do know that having a book with a good story makes me more inclined to take time out to relax and put my feet up.  I think us mums don’t do enough of that and we put more hours into our job than we realise.

Inspiring books for me are ones which offer creativity.  I love browsing sewing books because then I get all fired up with things that I want to make (99% of the time, I never do make these things, but they leave me feeling good and positive).  For the same reason, gardening books and self-sufficiency books offer a bit of escapism, I don’t have the space to do any gardening, but I like to dream.

Take care xxx

Thanks everyone.  I’m ok, just getting alittle bit stressed as DD almost 5 going on 15! is driving me around the bend, I get angry with her and then feel even worse, DH still can’t find a full time job and the full time temp job I’m in is either going to get hours cut or end within the next 6 months.  Nothing earth shatteringly bad, I suppose I’m just feeling really sorry for myself.  I just bought a book about how to help your anxious child but I suspect it’s probably me causing it.  Oh well, people are dealing with a lot worse.

Thanks for the suggestions.  I just need to calm down and destress.

Michelle

What a mother does especially when it looks like nothing -  obvs! Also I love Good Omens by Neil Gaiman, it’s funny and wry and makes me feel better whenever I read it!

Uplifting books for me would be non-fiction, and probably sappy.  Classics are good for this grin  Also, A good romp like a Phillippa Gregory (tudor series) or something like Moll Flanders would cheer me up no end!  (I’m considering reading the twilight books having watched the films this weekend!)

If I’m feeling down and needing to feel better then non-fictional worthyness just doesn’t ever seem to do it for me.

Hope you are feeling better soon (((hugs)))

I read Jean Auel’s series Earth Children.  The first one is Clan of the cave Bear.  I find they’re a great mix, funny, sad, lots of sex, romance, as well, as being really interesting and descritpive of much simpler ways of living.
