Sorry, lots of questions but here goes!

How much faith do you put in what they say?
What if you don’t like what they say?
What if they say something bad?

I know a few people who have been to a spiritualist and the things they have said have been quite accurate.  I was always rather skeptical before but the things that the lady knew, she shouldn’t/couldn’t have known IYSWIM.  So, I think I would like to go and see one, or maybe have my birth chart done, but I’m scared of what they might tell me rolleyes - any thoughts really appreciated.

I’ve never been to one myself, but both of my sisters in law go regularly to see spiritualists , for church, readings or healing. They get so much from it , have been told all kinds of things that nobody could possibly have known. One of my sil said it gives you the most amazing feeling of calm and that in your darkest moment it helps you to feel supported and like you’re not alone.

I think if you have an interest its definately worth looking into.

Ooh I am so glad you have brought this subject up because it is very central to the spiritual awakening I am having right now.  I went to a new age fair last October and a clairvoyant sat a few of us down and did a Colin Fry 6ixth sense type of talk.  I had never been to anything like that before and must admit sat there, arms folded in a rather sceptical pose, “if this stuff is true, then my mum being the big character she was will come through”  and do you know what she did….big time!!!  The clairvoyant held her hands over her ears (my mum had a very loud voice) she knew my mums name, she knew things only my mum and I knew.  She even said my mum had seen me crying in her bedroom 2 days earlier and she was glad I’d spoken to her.  I was just crying at the end of it, but with joy and felt a great sense of hope and peace. something also hit the floor behind my chair.

This was the starting point of my spiritual journey and I discovered reiki shortly after and now I am undertaking many courses in alternative therapies.  I think if you’re interested Shell it is certainly an interesting and eye-opening area to become involved with.

Good luck,
Love and Light M.E

I have had hundreds of readings over the years and have to say there is probably a tonne of chaff for every kilo of wheat, if you know what I mean…

I would get personal recommendations if possible prior to seeing anyone, and keep a healthy dose of scepticism with you at all times.  Get a recording of the reading so you can listen again, as our minds are masters at twisting stuff to fit iykwim.

All in all, I’ve enjoyed my readings, some have been solid gold fantastic, others clarified things I’ve already known and A LOT have been an utter pile of dung but still fun wink

The purpose of spiritual readings is to demonstrate the presence of life after death, not to deliver lottery numbers etc.

Drat it.

Thanks everyone.  It’s all been a great help.  CC - the reason for the ‘saying something bad’ comment was due to a spiritualist/medium giving some information to a friend of my sister regarding my step-mum and her health.  My step-mum was dead withing 18 months!!

Just a quick update.  I haven’t been to see a medium yet but my sister has.  She had an amazing experience with people lining up to talk to her!!  She also said that she was very calm afterwards.  I still haven’t plucked up the courage.

I have been and had a quick look at a site which gave me a free natal birth chart (http://www.cyberastro.com).  Being a sceptic before I was very pleased (and a little worried if I’m honest) when it gave me my list of fears in the first sentence!!

I’m in a lovely mood today though, so all’s good so far :o)

My Mum and Dad have seen a couple of mediums and were impressed.  Personally I think they’re a complete of liars.  The only one I don’t object to is Gordon Smith who doesn’t charge for readings but as for the rest, I just think they are exploiting people’s grief for profit, which is totally unacceptable as far as I’m concerned.  I don’t mean to upset or offend those who are ok with mediums or who have had postive experiences, but it’s just my view on it.

I love the Derren Brown progs, and his recent one about a medium in Liverpool was fantastic and showed up this guy as a total fraud.  Derren Brown who admits to having no psychic ability has done some amazing cold readings which have left people convenienced he’s the real thing, just buy using his cold reading techniques and psychological know how.
