Have you ever bought anything from ebay on ‘collection only’ that you have been really embarrassed to collect because you have paid so little for it??

I know that when people put ‘collection only’ on items taht they are generally accepting that it will go for a lower price as one takes the gamble that someone in local vicinity is chasing that item but even so…...

I have just won the Pintoy ‘jungle set’- which I just bid for on the off chance. I had looked at it for my three for Christmas but had fairly rapidly decided that I couldn’t justify the £200 price tag- beautiful stuff that it is. Except I have just won it for £8- which intially I thought woooooh- and now I feel slightly, I guess, almost ashamed??

IA while ago I was watching a bundle of boys clothes from ebay, there was loads of stuff. The postage was £15 but the seller was only 9 miles away. They agreed that I could collect if I won them. They were obviously hoping I would help push the bidding up as I would be saving on postage. S I won them but feeling a tad embarassed I then sent DH to collect. I didn’t even mind that he didn’t bring back my penny change from the pound coin I gave him…........
Eeek, can’t believe I’m admitting to that!
On the other hand I once sold a bundle of baby clothes on ebay for 99p. The postage was £9 and the winning bidder said she wanted to collect and would have to ask her neighbur as she didn’t drive. So DH delivered them for free as she was on his way to somewhere. And then he refused to take the money!

What a bargain!  Don’t feel ashamed.  If the person wanted more for it they should have set a higher starting price.

My cheapest collection item on Ebay was a change table/baby bath for 4 pounds.  Did feel a little embarrassed picking it up though, like I was wasting her time!

No but my mum has had that happen in the past. She bought something, a bed, I think and it was about a tenner but worth a lot more, so my dad collected and gave them what he thought was fair, the woman apparently cried! So, maybe you could do that.

The only items I’ve ever bought and collected and where clothes and to be honest looking at the state of the house, put me off the clothes completely and I sent them straight to a charity shop.  I wouldn’t feel embarrassed.  If they’d wanted a higher price, they would have set it higher or put a reserve on it.

I agree with Rach, I’d probably pay at least £10 and not ask for the change. But dont feel embarrassed, they could have set a reserve price if they really wanted.

This happened to me lol! I got to the house and it was filthy! The kids had scribbled all over the walls and pulled off wallpaper, the floors were just bare floorboards (in a non interior design way lol) and the stink! It was a pushchair I bought and try as I might (washed the seat and everything) I could not get the smell of cigarettes and general bad stink out - it even made our garage smell when I put it in there to air! The problem was the foam handles and the hood which were all surface washable only.  In the end I got rid of it wink

We sold a huge solid wood dining table that went for a song - and I was disappointed but I knew it was a risk. So dont feel embarrassed! I’m off to collect a bargain again tomorrow (no, I havent learned my lesson from the pushchair hee hee).

Yes i won a sewing machine in a table for £2.21,and i felt a bit guilty, but we had so much trouble gettin in touch with the seller, people would answer saying she away etc,but i’m sure it was her,got her and address eventually,it was a really posh bungalow up a long private drive,no where to turn a pick up but we managed, just, only after knocking a row of 6 wheelie bins over and nearly having the corner off a marqee in the grounds!!!she was a right misery, but its a lovely machine!!!x
