I have just put out my green bin and my recycling box out for the first time this year! My black bin will need to go out by the end of April perhaps. This is a HUGE improvement for us. Our bins went out nearly every week before Chritmas. Our plasic is recycled locally which i take every couple of weeks.

I was really worried that we would be able to do it put just making a few changes have really made a difference and has been very painless!

Hopefully the bins will only have to go out a couple of times this year.

Hmm I wonder if the council will reduce my council tax?? I think not smile

Ha ha, I think not too smile . We had our 2010/2011 bill through the other day and I joked with dh that it should be reduced as they didn’t do the bins here for 3 weeks over Christmas in the ice and then snoow.

Well done though on your waste reduction grin

brilliant result - well done you!

If everyone followed your example, the landfill would last SO much longer and we wouldn’t need these incinerators.

65 million tonnes of waste is landfilled every year in england alone! its really hard to get hold of figures as the government publishes different ones in different reports. iam doing my diss at uni on using AD to combat kitchen food waste in the UK which is 5.5 million tonnes a year and this does not include commercial and industry food waste! god knows what that total would be but when every tonne of food waste equtes to 4 tonnes of green house gases this ridicuolus new law from the eu on having tyre pressure monitors in cars from 2013 seems really pathetic.

Germany only landfills 1% of their waste and banned biodegradable waste from landfill back in 2005 altogether. the government thinks its so great and forward thinking!
all the councils are into bloody composting which play its part dont get me wrong but it doesnt produce any energy which will beocme an issue in our lifetimes.

as for incinerators the majority are mass burn and dont capture the heat or gas for conversion into electricity. so if we wont to do something we should lobby out local authoritys to conider AD as part of the local waste strategy it wont deal with everyhing but food waste is one of the largest componets of the waste stream. so if we are to meet eu targets set for 2013 and avoid a £500 million fine which will be passed on to all of us through council tax, then AD is the quickest and most sustainable and reliable way to go.

lets get writting to our MPs!!!
