Did you see the discussion on the Guardianb letters page a while ago, where people wrote in with alternaitive uses for the 35mm photo film canisters? My dh has just found another one. I needed extra long knitting needles to finish the collar on a cardi for me, in 8mm, and this was really hard to find. He first came up with the idea of using doweling with a point sharpened, and then the lids of said canister to use as end bits to stop the stitches from sliding off - how clever is that! Sadly the Guardian discussion has stopped, but I’m sure you’ll rejoice with me!  cheese

I love the little canisters and used them for all sorts of things as a child.  I have some in my craft cupboard with shells, buttons, beads etc in.  I love little storage things.  I also have an old Marlboro packet form the bad old days where I keep my collection of tiny white shells.  I love the knitting needle idea - well done.

thats a good use, as using them for storing stuff in, especially green stuff is really bad because of all the chemicals used in the processing of film that gets leached into the plastic cannisters themslves. the top of one of my eedles keeps coming off so i might try the lid thing! thanks
