Hello!

So, finally clearing out the “cupboard of doom” and dealing with all the old cloth nappies, which makes me feel sad as I’m kind of admitting to myself no more babies :(

Anyway!, I have quite a lot of old TotsBots and most of them are past their best, the elastic is almost gone in them and they’re looking a bit tatty, but still functional, and it seems wasteful to just put them in the bin when I know they would probably still “do”. They’re not as soft & fluffy as new ones, not as white as they should be, but if they had new elastic and a nice fleece liner then I’d still use them if I had another baby (but only for at home “emergency” days - not ones to be seen out with lol!)

Any idea what to do with them, or shall I just bin them? Are there charities that take old nappies - I’m sure I read years ago about one that donated to Romania?? Not sure if they’d want these though - I’d feel a bit awful giving old tatty things!

Hi there
When I had my first little one I bought some reusable wipes from eBay that were flannel type material one side and fleecy the other ( hemmed round). I have a few of these left but have managed to loose some over the years ( and possibly used them to remove makeup etc) so was wondering…... I have lots of old towels that just sit in the cupboard since I got round to buying some lovely new white ones. Could I make some wipes out of these and if so would it be as easy as cutting template, cutting down to size, putting two together and hemming it round? Would this work? In my head it would but then I’m not so sure bout the reality.
Thanks
Denise

How sad am I, I hate disposables, can’t cope with the washing of tots bots with everything else that is going on. I miss my Bumgenius so much! I had them with Alice and they were so much easier, I tried to save money and got tots bots instead with Saule and wish I hadn’t, every time I try to use them it is too much and I can’t dry them in time. But at the same time I am spending six quid a pack on eco-disposables and it breaks my heart every time I have to use them. I even hate buying them, I judge myself so much.

I bought the Mothercare re-usable wrap with disposable insert and they were ok for a while but didn’t last, they leak every time :(
I still have the inserts from the bumgenius if anyone has ideas how I could use them?

Just needed to vent and ask if anyone has any ideas?

Evening All,
Just thinking about getting hospital bag and generally organising myself as 8 weeks to go, going to use real nappies again when DD arrives. Had mixed success with DS 7 years ago, but deterined to make a success of it this time! Realised I need a wet bag for when out and about - can anyone recommend a decent sized one - seem to be loads on the market at silly prices! What do you lovely people recommend to use and to avoid?
Thanks

How can I remove BF baby poo stains? Out of nappies, wraps and clothes. I know Ecover do a laundry bleach, that would work on some nappies, although I’m not sure if I could use them on the wraps. But I also use Bright Bots coloured terries so can’t bleach them. And I have stains on a few vests and sleepsuits when it’s all fired up the back!
A green option would be best, although would consider a not-so-green (shhhhhh) option. Sunshine isn’t much of an option because it seems to always be drizzling here.

I think I should probably soak them before washing them as I never manage only 3 days between washes!

PS. I wash in plain non-bio stuff (Tesco at the mo). Would I be better using a detergent with optical brighteners? I also add BioD sanitiser to both the pre-wash and main wash drawer. I usually wash on ‘Synthetics’ although have been washing on ‘Warm’ recently as she’s been pooing a lot. I have no ideas of the temperatures as I wash at the laundrette.

I’ll start by apologising if this sounds obvious, I’m having a rubbish few days and can’t think sraight right now. We’re experimenting with reusables wipes…and going to ahve a go with nappies too later (thank you Ophelia). I know I need to hold the wipe under a flushing loo if it’s really soiled, and then in a bucket until ready to wash.

Q1: What do i put in the bucket? I’ve read about dry pail but what does this mean?!
Q2: We use ecoballs and essential oils in the wash. So what temp do I need to put the wipes on, and will the eco balls be enough. Considering ordering some soapnuts soon to make some washing up liquid but for now all we have are eco balls.

Think that is it

Right then…when ds was born desperately wanted to use reusables…but it never happened. 2 1/2 years down the line and we’re still using disposables :-0. BUT. DS is only just coming round to the idea of potty training, so I’m guessing we may still have a while of needing nappies, esp at night.

So my question is…would it be worth me getting some reusables now?

We are hoping for more, so they would be reused by our next babe. Our budget is fairly limited right now though, so can’t spend a fortune on them, but I’m guessing it wouldn’t be any more than the price of disposables (prob £20 a month?). Or am i really wrong there?! Also, don’t want to spend a fortune in case another babe just doesn’t happen.

Any recommendations and what I would need greatly received - I’ve read lots of previous posts but as DS is nearly out of them I’m wondering if my needs are the same as those with newborns.

Thank you!

I guess, as with disposables, some brand of nappy will be perfect for your baby’s shape and some will leak. If you are on a tight budget and would financially be better off getting the “birth to potty” sets, how do you choose which brand to go with? It’s mind boggling!

Can you buy newborn trial nappies (so maybe one of each brand)? But what if your chosen brand is fab for newborns but when they get a bit bigger and it starts to leak? You would have wasted all that money.

Sorry for sounding so thick!...I’m just trying to get myself a tiny bit prepared (albeing 8 mths early!! Lol!) x
