This time of year there are local Potato Days. I saw the Hampshire Potato Day advertised in Green Parent last year. We went along and it was great! There were lots of people there, with stands including a couple of local gardening groups who were really helpful, advising me on some gardening problems.

It was a really cheap way of buying several varieties of potatoes in small enough quantities for our little garden.

http://www.potatoday.org/ is the site for Hampshire, but there are more around the country.

Oxfordshire Green Party’s annual Winter Green Fair will be held this year on Saturday 3rd December 2011 at Oxford Town Hall. The fair will be open to the public from 10.30am to 4.30 pm. This highly successful fair presents alternative views to conventional concepts of health, food, technology, politics, and many other issues and provides a great opportunity for communicating the ideas of the alternative/green movement and for fundraising.
The fair will be held in 4 rooms – the Main Hall, the Assembly Room, the Old Library and the St. Aldates room. Over the last few years the demand for stalls at the Fair has risen sharply so this year we have reorganised the space to make more stalls available. The centre of the Old Library will be used as eating space for visitors buying food from our vegetarian/vegan café.

I’ve been asked to help organise a festival in 2011. It’s going to be more like an conference with communal eating and sharing of ideas. It will look at new ideas on civilisation - of Eco living, natural medicines, and other concepts from the past which may help us in the future. I don’t know enough on the subject and would like to be much more informed. we’re looking for speakers and I thought this forum would be a good place to ask - who would you like to hear speak? And can you share any websites, books you found interesting on these subjects. Thanks in advance
