Home from Sunrise

Home from Sunrise

We just got back from Sunrise Celebration where we had the most blissed out and marvellous weekend. It was great to enjoy a festival that has green issues right at it’s core and I think these values are what makes it the lovefest that it is.

From workshops on the evolution of consciousness to a bouncing set of brilliant electronic beats from The Bays, there was really something for everyone to enjoy. The family area was alive with creativity throughout the weekend with scrap workshops, world percussion jams, circus skills and a bulging dressing up box. From here the festival led up into the healing area which offered tranquil fairy gardens in which to rest and dream.

Well managed compost loos that turn waste into a valuable growing medium, a hard working and dedicated site crew and ample recycling facilities all over the site were some of the most visible eco initiatives. Dig deeper and you’ll discover that 5 of the 6 stages were powered by renewables (wind and solar), over 80% of the food served was organic, some of the alcohol served was brewed on site at the organic farm and the festival plays host to a awe inspiring range of speakers and workshops on green living.

Later in the year, Sunrise are hosting their Off-grid event at the same organic farm and it promises to be a real treat – a chance to delve deeper into community living, learn to generate your own power, eat from nature and design the future. The whole event, which takes place from 20 – 23rd August, will be powered by micro generation of clean renewable energy. Tickets are available now for £75 adults, £25 children. Or you can enter our competition to win tickets here.
