With today's news about the Badman report on the monitoring of Home Educated families, this conference seems more vital and timely than ever. The first unschooling conference will take place in London on 25th July and will play host to a number of key speakers.
Organised by educational consultant and home educator, Matt Speno, the London Unschooling Conference has been set up because many believe that unschooling needs a voice and a forum in the UK. The event will take place at The Music Room just off Oxford Street and alongside the lectures there promises to be lots of exciting funshops and activities for children. Expect to meet new friends, find support, discuss ideas and get inspired! This conference is a forum for the exchange and discussion of ideas. A place to mix with other advocates of peaceful parenting and learning in joy and freedom. Presenting Dayna Martin as the key-note speaker – a leading light in the unschooling movement in the USA.
Dayna Martin, writer, speaker and mother of four unschooled children will be speaking about her family’s experiences and inspiring others. Her organisation, Unschooling United is a non-profit based venture which promotes freedom and respect for children through education and support. Read an interview with Dayna here.

If you read the detail of the Badman report, you will know that autonomous education in this country is about to be outlawed. This is one of the things being overlooked by the press because the report also says that the authorities should take the chidren and interview them away from their parents. That bit is being highlighted naturally. You will also have to get permission to home educate and ths can be taken away whenever the authorities deem your provision unfit. That means if you have an LA officer who doesn’t like home education you are going tohave a hard time to get registered. If this concerns you, then please write to your MP.
Thanks Kelly,
Can i recommend that everyone who feels that children have a right to autonomous home education visit the Freedom for Children to Grow website at http://www.freedomforchildrentogrow.org/lobbying.htm. This explains how to get in touch with your local MP.
Any other ideas, please share them here.
