Summer holiday events

Are you looking for something inspiring for your children to get involved with this summer? From drama workshops to forest play there's a whole host of exciting possibilities out there.

Active Arts Annual Theatre Skills Week
26-30th July Dulwich College, London
A week long celebration of theatre skills workshops – from comedy to musical theatre, Shakespeare to street dance – for children aged 6 to 16 years. Led by Margo Gunn, education practitioner at Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre and the vibrant Amanda Jordan this workshop promises to be very special. My children are currently taking part in a six week home educator’s drama course with this dynamic pair and have thoroughly enjoyed the experience, picking up many usual skills into the bargain. To find out more or to book email activearts1@yahoo.co.uk or tel: 07514 543345

Summer Woodland Playscheme
26-29th July and 2-5th Aug East Sussex countryside, nr. Lewes
This annual playscheme has participants doing treasure hunts, playing games, listening to stories round the fire and learning more about the woodland environment. My children have been taking part in this for the last few years and they absolutely LOVE it – they learn so much and have such a lot of fun during these woodland weeks, led by the inspirational facilitators at Talking Trees. For more information email rcbennington@aol.com.

Wood is Good
9-13th August, Marwell Wildlife Park, Hampshire
Join the celebrations this summer and find out what fantastic habitats trees offer for all sorts of wildlife. Follow the story time trail through the enchanted trees then join in with creative crafts and be sure to ‘leaf a message’ on the eco-tree to share your ideas on how we can better conserve our environment. Find out more at marwell.org.uk or tel 01962 777407.

Family Week in the Woods
16-20 Aug Woodland Skills Centre, Denbigh, Wales
If you fancy a family experience, then this week long exploration of the woodland, learning about trees, plants and wildlife with the chance to build shelters and make fire might be just what you are after. You can camp at the centre and have access to loos and shower and a midday meal is provided every day, all for just £120 per adult, £50 for children (children under seven go free). Sound good? Find out more at the Woodland Skills Centre.
