In 2011, I was creating natural body scrubs for myself and giving them as gifts to friends and family. My niece had really dry skin on her legs and Aunty Emma’s body scrub really seemed to help. A few people had told me I should sell the scrub so I looked into what I needed to do, got my safety assessments and complied with all legislation and launched the brand. It has evolved a lot over the years - nearly 10 years now. I now focus on Natural Soap Bars, Liquid Soaps, Hair Conditioner Bars and Aroma Blends and no longer offer body scrubs. I began teaching soap making courses in 2014 and have now taught over 300 people the art of cold process soap making – find out more at soapology.co.uk. We have won multiple awards for our products, most recently Gold in the Green Parent Natural Beauty Awards 2020 for our Solid Hair Conditioner Bar which we are delighted about.

SELF-CARE SECRETS

I am a little bit of a spa addict and love to get a massage to help to relax. This is my one treat and I try to book myself one at least once a month. I also make myself a turmeric and honey facemask and relax in a hot bath while it does its work brightening my tired face. What is sleep when you have a toddler!?

BUSINESS PLANS

Soapology is experiencing a period of huge growth right now, we have just moved premises to our new workshop at The Winkburn Estate and demand is high for our products. Our online orders have increased 700% in the last few months as people are becoming more aware of how great soap bars are at gently cleansing and also eliminating unnecessary plastic packaging. Our bars are also palm oil free which people are now more aware of and appreciate, along with our regular soap donations to local homelessness charity Framework. The Covid19 situation has meant an influx of eager students wanting to learn how to make their own soap naturally and because of this we have now launched additional dates for our soap-making courses throughout the year - limited in numbers and socially distanced of course. Our network of retail stockists across the UK is growing steadily and we are always looking for more stores to partner with. We also plan to take on more staff over the next year. It’s all very exciting.

ONE WAY TO BE MORE SUSTAINABLE

EVERY LITTLE HELPS Changing one thing is better than changing nothing. Swapping your bottle of liquid shower gel for a bar soap is a great start or switching those throwaway water bottles for a reusable one. Wherever you start is a great start and go from there.
