Gift Guide: Chocolate

In the first of a series of green gift guides, we bring you delicious ideas for the foodie in your life.

DIVINE ETHICS
Who can resist the deeply delicious goodies available at Divine, the only Fairtrade chocolate company co-owned by farmers? There are some fabulous new additions to its Christmas range this year. We love the dark and milk chocolate foiled balls and the gift box of dark, milk and white chocolate bars is the perfect size for stockings. Best of all they are all under £5 and there is FREE DELIVERY at the Divine Chocolate Shop: www.divinechocolateshop.com until 10th December where Divine’s Christmas product range, as well as Divine hampers and gift-sets, are available online. There really is something to appeal to all ages and tastes.

HELP FARMERS
Present Aid offers a Chocolate Starter Kit that helps Nicaraguan farmers grow a new future. The livelihoods of coffee farmers and their families in Nicaragua are on the brink of disaster, with warm weather caused by climate change ruining their crops. One solution is to switch to cocoa, which thrives in warmer environments. A starter kit from present Aid contains enough cocoa seedlings for one plot of land and three days training that will help the farmer learn how to cultivate this new crop. Available for £47 from www.presentaid.org

ULTIMATE LUXURY
One present that I hope finds it’s way into my stocking this year is a box of my favourite chocolates in the world, ever – the luscious Champagne Truffles from Booja Booja. Whoever makes these silky mouthfuls is a genius – they are organic, dairy free, handmade in Norfolk and the proud winner of 25 awards. If you want to spread a little love, give a box of these.

RAW GOODNESS
A friend brought me this raw chocolate making kit for my birthday from Choc Chick and it makes the most gorgeous raw chocolate. Using agave syrup, raw cacao butter, unprocessed cacao powder and armed with a handy recipe book, you can make around 80 chocolates. This is a great gift for those who like experimenting in the kitchen.

READ ALL ABOUT IT
Green and Blacks book – Chocolate Recipes: from the Cacao Pod to Muffins, Mousses and Moles is stuffed full of ideas from sweet treats to spicy savoury stews all containing chocolate. I find this book a real inspirational read and it is an essential part of any chocolate lover’s recipe book collection.
