Food Glorious Food

The National Trust is launching a new campaign called Food Glorious Food. The Trust pledges to help children (aged five to 12) and their parents to grow their own fruit and vegetables as part of a healthy, sustainable lifestyle.

Starting during this half term, over 170 million free seeds and advice will be given away at National Trust properties over the year; that’s 4 million pumpkins, 70 million lettuces and the equivalent of 26 million bags of rocket!

The National Trust believes that helping a child learn how to grow their own vegetables and fruit also encourages them to get outdoors and eat more healthily. Food Glorious Food is for every child, not just those with big gardens; food can be grown in sinks, on windowsills and even in wellington boots!

The National Trust will also launch a fun, new and interactive website www.foodgloriousfood.org.uk where young people can find out how to plant, grow and cook their own food. This is an essential life skill which paves the way for a healthy, active and sustainable lifestyle. Kids love being outside and getting their hands dirty – growing their own food is the perfect excuse!
