Continuum Parenting

Babies left in prams and pushchairs are perhaps missing out on vital stimulation and often cry as their way of letting us know this is not where they want to be. Sadly, we have become culturally desensitised into believing such distress is "normal" behaviour.

Crying babies are almost always at their most contented when being picked up. And babies that are carried interact much more as they are held up high where they can see and hear what’s going on. Recent research trials have shown that carrying regularly each day in a carrier such as theBabaSling reduced daytime crying by 43% and night crying by 51%. Great news for parents with fractious young ones!

Another great bonus of using a baby carrier is that they give parents the freedom to move simply and quickly whether in the home or out and about. Having two hands to get on with life’s demands while baby nestles contentedly certainly makes parenting a whole lot easier.

It’s hugely empowering: do the gardening, go shopping, cook a meal, socialise and even dance while soothing your baby and providing a stimulating environment for them at the same time.

One of the advantages of theBabaSling is that there is no need to buy multiple carriers for different purposes as this carrier can be used from birth to toddler with seven different positions to choose from. Use it as a front carrier right from birth; your baby nestled neatly into your body so they don’t get in the way and it leaves your hands free to get on with other things. As your child grows and becomes more aware and wants to look around, you can use the sling as a hip carrier, ‘Side Saddle’ or a back carrier, ‘Little Piggy’ for 0-3 months and ‘Piggy Back’ for 6 months plus.

It is great for breastfeeding too. Using the ‘Easy Tiger’ or ‘Sleeping Tiger’ position you can hold your baby in the correct and most comfortable position for feeding. It also has plenty of extra material which means you can breastfeed discreetly ‘on the go’ without disgruntling any passers by.

The Unique Adjustment System (UAS) means the sling can adjust in seconds to fit mums, dads and babies of all shapes and sizes – one size fits all. theBabaSling also has a unique buckling system that allows you to take it off with ease and without disturbing your sleeping baby.

Baby carrying or wearing is an ancient tradition and today still makes common sense. Carrying your baby provides them with the essential stimulation their body and minds need for optimum development.

Available for £49.90 to buy online. For more information see www.theBabaSling.co.uk or tel: 0845 2222 468

Nice article but, I have to say that I often get at my local slingmeet mums who dislike the babasling and want to get someting else. There are a lot of carriers that are suitable from birth to toddlerhood, and are more comfortable for the parent smile (which is very important!!)
I urge every mum wishing to carry her baby to go to their local slingmeet (slingmeet.co.uk) and try slings before making a decision.
Also check the slingguide.co.uk, a wonderful website made by parents, for parents. All the info is there!

I loved using a sling and often did, but used the pram if I did 2 hour walks and my son was asleep.. However I am now having twins and cannot imagine how I will wear two babies at a time? Nice article though!

You can wear 2 at the time! check thebabywearer.com or preferably natural mamas forum for all the advice you need related to babywearing. It’s not that complicated smile

Good article but I liked my baby carrier much more then a sling. I carried my boy ( he is 13 months now) since he was born and we don’t even have a pram. I totally agree with all the benefits of wearing a baby!
