Each week, in the build up to Christmas, I’ll be sharing with you some of the crafts I have enjoyed with my little ones and how to recreate them at home. This week is the handprint tree. So far we’ve only done one of these with our eldest but the result has been something simple and yet memorable. I don’t know that I want her to do a new one, there’s something rather special about looking back at those tiny excited hands with each year that passes.

What you will need:
• 1 x pair of willing little hands
• A4 canvas
• Paints
• Brushes
• Glitter
Instructions:
• Make sure little hands are clean and sparkly
• Mix together green and blue paints to achieve that special Christmas green colour
• Paint one or both of your little one’s hands (younger children are easier to manage with just one painted hand)
• Staring at the top, around 3” down, guide your child to firmly press their hand against the canvas, one print at a time, forming a tree shape. You can space sprints out for a neat look or close together for a fuller tree. Reapply paint to hand/s as you go.
• Allow to dry.
• Once hand prints are dry, have your little one dip their finger tips in their favourite colours. Join them and show them how to press their finger tips onto the canvas to add little baubles to the tree.
• For younger children, you may need to add a star and stump/pot to the tree picture or you can experiment with stickers/stamps.
• Allow to dry and add the date and age of your child, as a special reminder of just how old their little hands were.
Handy hint: All of the craft supplies listed are available for very low prices from your local b&m stores and pound land. I was surprised to pick up two canvas’ for just £1.50 from b&m stores, this has made for many great craft projects and special gifts for loved ones.
